2009 -2010 PCEF Teacher Grants

This year’s PCEF’s Teacher Grants:
Were sponsored by Swire Coca-Cola, Park City Rotary, Nele Needham Memorial Fund, the Linda Singer Berrett Memorial Fund, as well as several parent sponsors.

Emphasized The Year of Math & Science, but still funded arts and languages as well.

Funded all learning levels: special needs, English-language learners, gifted & talented, elementary, middle and high school.

The Park City Education Foundation funded more than $110,000 in programs for the 2009-2010 school year, including more than $31,000 in Teacher Grants. Funded programs include:

Technology & Science

Flip For It: Video Cameras in the Classroom, Ecker Hill
Video cameras to enhance learning in the students’ high-tech modern world.

STARLAB Shines in Park City, All four elementary schools
A portable planetarium allowing indoor simulation of stars and constellations.

iPods: Innovations in 21st Century Learning, Jeremy Ranch; in conjunction with the JRES PTO
Engaging students in basic skill learning with familiar and “cool” technology.

GPS & GeoCaching Adventure, Trailside Elementary
Engaging mind and body learning directions and problem solving while treasure hunting.

Listen Up & Let Voices Be Heard! Trailside Elementary; matching grant with school funds
Portable audio system to be used in the classroom and on stage.

Scholarships to Teton Science School, Treasure Mountain
Junior High students spend a week at Teton Science School for hands-on science learning.

Books & Literacy

Battle of the Books, Trailside Elementary; Sponsored by Todd & Becky Gianuque, owners of The Park City UPS Stores
Summer reading program that challenges students to read for content and comprehension.

Literature for Differentiated Groups, McPolin Elementary; Co-Sponsored by David & Sarah Peters

sed program for fifth grade students to learn math skills at their individual levels.

Math-related gadgets for students to gain a concrete understanding of math concepts.

AYP Math Rescue, Parley’s Park; Co-Sponsored by Greg & Gwen Miller
Creation of a Math Lab to help students below grade level in K-5 math.

Multiplication Fact Masters, Trailside Elementary
Hand-held computers to help third graders learn multiplication tables more thoroughly.

Scientific Calculators, Park City High
High-quality scientific calculators for upper-level math courses at the High School.

Literature & Writing

Our Lives in Six Words, Park City High
Photos and poems to give voice to English-learning senior class members.

Scholar-in-Residence, Park City High
Discussion, debate and learning through the entire school and community reading one book and meeting its author.
